The birth of the Armada Hotel, started towards the end of the 1980s when a row of burnt down wooden houses just behind the city walls was first seen and learning that they belonged to the row houses built by Barbaros Hayrettin Pasha for his marine on the Ahırkapı coast in the historical center of Istanbul. 

The Armada team always asked itself that same fundamental question during conceptual designing: “If Istanbul’s historical integrity had been properly preserved, what would it look like today?” Everything outside and inside has been shaped according to the answers to this question. Thus, the Armada Hotel has been providing good feelings to those who are looking for “Istanbul” in today’s Istanbul since 1994 when it was put into service.

The Radio Bar was first designed as a reference to the “radio days” of the ‘50s and ‘60s and decorated with antique radios and piano in 1994. Later on, like in the homes of Istanbul bourgeois of 20th century, “Art Nouveau” chairs and couches matching tables, lamp shades, music boxes, an Istanbul bookshelf, newspaper-magazine table and pianos were added and it evolved to a “Guest Lounge”. The “Radio Bar” itself is now located just on the right side of the entrance yet maintains its presence with the neon lights and antique liquor cabinet. Radio Bar welcomed many talented musicians from Europe, US and Turkey. Nowadays Turkish music groups like “Emin Fındıkoğlu Jazz Trio”, play live music from time to time at the “Radio Bar”.
